There has been a new change in our classroom. All of the 2nd and 3rd grade A.R. picture books are now located in our room. If the students have any spare time during the day they need to be reading an A.R. book or taking an A.R. test. Thanks to the Home and School Association, we have three new Dell computers in our classroom. The children can take their tests independently when they feel they are ready. While I am meeting with one grade for group reading, the other grade will be reading A.R. books or taking A.R. tests. There will be plenty of opportunities throughout the day to be involved with A.R. Students may also take A.R. books home to read as well.
The students have a quarterly goal and a yearly goal. The quarterly goal will be noted on each report card throughout the year. If the class, as a whole, meets their goal we will have a reward party. Due to varying reading levels within a grade, I may change the point requirement throughout the year to make meeting a goal more challenging for an individual student.
Also, students are encouraged to go to the school library and pick out chapter books appropriate for their reading level
