Kindergarten today offers a true learning experience. It’s an invaluable setting for learning such social skills as listening, sharing, taking turns, serving others and self discipline.
The Kindergarten curriculum stresses basic readiness skills, with emphasis on Religion (Our Sunday Visitor), Reading Readiness (Alpha-Time Letter-People) and Math (Sadlier/Oxford and Math-Their Way). Supplementary materials are used in the areas of science, art, social studies, phonics, rhyming, etc.
There are six learning centers that are color coded and changed weekly:
Listening or Computers,
Reading Readiness,
Math,
Role Play,
Gross Motor and
Art.
In addition to academic work, we do finger plays, and flannel board stories. We listen to music and stories, sing, view filmstrips, and view movies. We complete different units in colors, shapes and other concepts.
Friday is a total group day; which includes review, show n’ tell and free play center time. In addition, children are also given time to “catch-up” on their centers. This schedule may change according to the work pace of the children.
