AR is a computer program that helps teachers motivate students to read. Studies show that reading is a foundational skill, the key to doing well and getting good grades in all subject areas.
Students choose their own books to read which makes reading enjoyable for them. After completing a book, they take a short computer test on it.
At the fifth and sixth grade level, the students with the teacher’s help, set yearly goals for themselves. Students’ yearly goals are divided by four so that they have a goal each marking period.
At the end of each marking period, two reading grades are generated: one for the percentage of the goal obtained and one for the comprehension on the tests.
